From Obstacle Course to Easy Stroll: Smoothing the Way in Oshawa, Ontario
Challenge
In any neighbourhood, a walkway is more than just concrete—it’s the track where children learn to ride bikes, the route for parents pushing strollers, and the essential path for seniors enjoying a bit of fresh air. When this commercial walkway in Oshawa began to sink, it turned what should have been a simple stroll into a full-blown obstacle course. Uneven concrete slabs created “mountain ranges” at every joint, making navigation difficult for wheels, dangerous for pedestrians, and frustrating for anyone passing through. These kinds of sinking sidewalks are a common problem across Ontario, especially in areas near utilities, retaining walls, or where the ground is prone to shifting. Left unaddressed, they pose ongoing safety risks, liability concerns for property owners, and diminish the overall appeal of the property.
Solution
Our team handled this walkway concrete leveling project with the precision of a skilled craftsman. Using high-density polyurethane injection, we carefully lifted and stabilized the sunken slabs, bringing the walkway back to be flush with the utility manhole and surrounding stone walls. This method is fast and minimally disruptive—because the foam reaches full strength almost instantly, there was no long wait for drying cement. Residents and visitors were able to safely use the walkway within hours, restoring accessibility for strollers, wheelchairs, and everyday foot traffic. This solution provides a long-lasting fix for sinking concrete sidewalks, eliminating trip hazards and protecting the property’s aesthetics and safety for years to come.
