Challenge
This Unionville, Ontario home featured a unique pool deck surface composed of a rubberized “rubber rock” style material designed for comfort, slip resistance, and durability around wet areas. While the surface itself remained in excellent condition with no cracking or deterioration, the underlying soil experienced settlement over time. This resulted in a void forming beneath one section of the pool deck, causing it to sag noticeably on one side.
Although the material remained intact, the shifting base created an uneven and unstable surface that impacted both safety and aesthetics. The homeowners took great pride in their backyard space, and the pool area in particular was a key feature of the property. A sinking section not only affected appearance but also posed a growing concern that the issue would worsen if left untreated. Since the surface material itself did not require replacement, the challenge was to stabilize and lift the affected section without disturbing or removing the existing rubberized finish.
Solution
Our team completed a detailed on-site assessment to determine the extent of the void beneath the affected section and confirm that the settlement was isolated to one area. Once the scope was defined, a targeted polyurethane injection concrete leveling plan was developed to stabilize and lift the sunken section without disturbing the surrounding pool deck.
Small, strategic injection points were drilled through the affected area, allowing for the installation of a high-density polyurethane foam beneath the surface. As the material expanded, it filled the voids caused by soil erosion and provided controlled lifting force to gradually raise the pool deck back toward its original elevation. This process ensured precise adjustment while maintaining the integrity of the rubberized surface above.
The result was a fully stabilized and level pool deck with the sagging section corrected and the underlying soil reinforced for long-term performance. The homeowners were able to preserve their existing premium surface while eliminating the safety concern and restoring the visual appeal of their backyard. The finished product delivered a seamless, level, and structurally supported pool area in Unionville, Ontario—without the need for demolition or replacement.
