Beyond the Surface: Subgrade Stabilization Success in Hampton, Ontario
Challenge
Many homeowners see weeds sprouting in their driveway as a simple cosmetic nuisance, but the reality can be far more serious. In this case, open expansion joints had become vulnerable entry points for water and the harsh Canadian elements. As water penetrates these gaps, it saturates the gravel base beneath the concrete, causing soil washouts and the formation of hidden underground voids. Over time, this loss of support leads to heavy concrete slabs sinking and cracking, creating uneven surfaces that eventually require costly replacement. The vegetation visible in the early photos served as a warning sign that the subgrade was being compromised, with moisture steadily weakening the foundation beneath the driveway. Addressing these issues early is essential to prevent further damage and maintain a safe, durable driveway.
Solution
To resolve the settling and restore long-term stability, our team utilized our advanced PolyLevel® injection system. After clearing the joints of debris and vegetation, we carefully injected high-density structural polymer beneath the sunken sections. As the polymer expands, it fills hidden voids caused by erosion and precisely lifts the concrete back to its original grade. This waterproof and environmentally friendly material not only restores the surface height but also compacts and reinforces the loose subgrade, creating a solid base that resists future settling. The result is a level, durable driveway that protects both the concrete surface and the soil beneath, giving homeowners a permanent, low-maintenance solution to subgrade instability.
