Ancaster's Smooth Walkway: Restoring a Safe Side Entrance for the Family
Challenge
In this Ancaster, Ontario home, a high-traffic but often overlooked area—the side entrance and connecting walkway—had become a growing safety concern for the family. This pathway served as a primary access point for daily movement around the home, especially for children and family members entering and exiting the property. Over time, the stamped concrete slabs had shifted and settled, creating uneven transitions and sharp vertical edges between sections. These sunken and misaligned concrete slabs resulted in multiple trip hazards, turning what was once a convenient walkway into a risky surface where every step required caution. With young children frequently using the area, the uneven concrete presented an ongoing safety concern and reduced the overall usability of the side entrance.
Solution
To restore a safe and functional walkway, our team implemented a non-invasive polyurethane concrete leveling system. Through precise injection of a high-density expanding polyurethane material, we carefully lifted the sunken walkway slabs and side step back to their original, level position. This process eliminated the hazardous vertical “lips” between sections, restoring a smooth and continuous walking surface while stabilizing the underlying soil structure for long-term support.
To further protect the repair and enhance durability, we completed a joint refresh and sealing process. The existing deteriorated sealant was removed and replaced with a premium-grade crack and joint sealant, designed to prevent water infiltration beneath the concrete. This step is critical in reducing future soil erosion and maintaining the integrity of the stabilized base.
The result is a fully restored side entrance with a level, sealed, and structurally supported walkway. The family now enjoys a safe, seamless transition in and out of their home without worrying about trip hazards or shifting slabs. The walkway is not only visually improved but also protected for long-term performance and peace of mind.
