Before & After

Front Step Sinks and Pulls Away from Porch in Burlington, Ontario

When you think about standout areas of your home, you probably think about the garden, backyard, and, more than anything, the kitchen. People sometimes forget about the front entryway, one of the most used areas. But when this spot becomes dangerous, it can become all you think about.

A customer in Burlington, Ontario, has a beautifully patterned concrete entryway to his home. The colour went well with the rest of the home’s look, but all that was tarnished by significant settlement on the lower slab. This created a dangerous trip hazard, so he reached out to Canadian Concrete Leveling for a solution.

Project Manager Alex Balson met with the homeowner and inspected the front walkway. He explained how loose-fill soils allow slabs to sink over time. The customer was concerned about repouring concrete, but Alex put his mind to ease. He walked the homeowner through our PolyLevel® System, which uses high-density polyurethane injections to lift, level and stabilize concrete. As the two-part solution is injected and mixed, it expands, compressing the soil and lifting the concrete above.

Foreman Bill McKeown and his crew, Installation Specialists Malay, Kyle and Aidan, started by drilling dime-sized holes in the concrete surface. These tiny holes are used as injection ports, where our hose is connected for the lift. After carefully raising the bottom step, the holes were patched with fresh concrete.

To ensure water would drain away from seeping beneath the porch and down into the basement, the customer made the wise decision to protect the seam with our NexusPro® Sealant. This flexible, UV-resistant caulking prevents water and debris from falling through the crack.

The homeowner can’t believe that his porch is back to a level grade, and with a new level of protection, in less than a day. He appreciates the hard work from the entire team and is happy knowing he saved money using our non-invasive alternative.
