Concrete Pool Deck Stabilization
Challenge
When these homeowners invested in a high-quality backyard pool, they expected a beautiful, safe, and functional outdoor space. Over time, however, the concrete deck surrounding the pool began to settle unevenly. Large slabs shifted, creating visible gaps and trip hazards along the pool edge.
This type of problem is common with pool installations. Often, the fill soils beneath the concrete aren’t adequately compacted before the deck is poured. Over the years, the weight of the concrete, combined with natural soil movement, can cause sections of the deck to sink or tilt. In this case, the uneven surface not only looked unkempt, but also caused water pooling and drainage issues around the pool — which can accelerate deterioration of both the concrete and surrounding landscaping.
The homeowners were faced with a tough decision: a full deck replacement would be expensive, disruptive, and would mean removing carefully designed landscaping. They wanted a solution that would restore safety and functionality without tearing up their backyard.
Solution
Canadian Concrete Leveling addressed the problem with a targeted concrete stabilization method specifically designed for poolside environments. Our team began by assessing the settled areas, measuring elevation differences, and identifying the soil voids beneath the slabs.
High-density polyurethane foam was then carefully injected beneath the affected concrete. As the foam expanded, it filled voids, lifted the slabs back into proper alignment, and compacted the underlying soil to provide long-term support. Injection points were strategically placed to maximize efficiency and minimize surface disruption, preserving the appearance of the deck and the surrounding landscaping.
The results were immediate and impactful. The pool deck was restored to a level, stable surface, eliminating trip hazards and improving water drainage. The homeowners were able to enjoy their backyard right away, without the disruption of demolition or extensive cleanup. By using polyurethane injection, they avoided a costly full deck replacement while extending the life of their concrete and protecting their investment in both safety and aesthetics.
