Ancaster, Ontario Pool Deck: From Sinking to Stable
Challenge
At this Ancaster, Ontario property, the pool deck had developed serious safety and structural concerns due to ongoing soil erosion beneath the concrete slabs. The surrounding landscape consisted primarily of open grass with no retaining structures or edge support, leaving the sub-base highly susceptible to washout from rainfall and seasonal conditions. Over time, this led to significant soil loss beneath the slab, creating large underground voids.
As the support beneath the concrete diminished, the pool deck began to settle unevenly, resulting in sunken sections, visible cracking, and hazardous elevation changes between slabs. These uneven edges created clear trip hazards around a high-use recreational area, while the underlying instability continued to worsen. Without proper intervention, the ongoing erosion and void formation would have led to further settlement and increased risk of damage to the poolside surface.
Solution
To restore stability and safety without removing the existing concrete, our team implemented a precision polyurethane injection concrete leveling system. Small access points were drilled through the affected slabs, allowing us to inject a high-density, expanding polyurethane material directly into the voids beneath the pool deck. As the material expanded, it filled the empty spaces left by soil erosion and provided controlled lifting force to raise the slabs back toward their original position.
This process not only re-leveled the concrete surface but also replaced the missing support with a waterproof, durable base that will not wash away over time. By stabilizing the sub-base and eliminating voids, we were able to close the trip hazards, reduce stress on the concrete, and restore a safe, even surface around the pool area.
The result was a fully stabilized and level pool deck, ready for immediate use. The homeowners regained a safe and functional outdoor space just in time for the summer season, without the disruption, cost, or downtime associated with full concrete replacement in Ancaster, Ontario.
